October WCC Reads! – Humankind: A Hopeful History
October 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until October 28, 2020
You are encouraged to read Rutger Bregman’s Humankind: A Hopeful History (2019, Hachette Book Group). Bregman, a Dutch historian, makes a compelling argument that people are not as bad as we are led to think by politicians, theologians, psychologists, novelists, historians, economists, and journalists. In fact, he maintains, human beings are more likely to exhibit empathy and cooperation rather than cold-hearted, selfish behaviors in times of social stress.
In this season of social stress, this may be just the right book to read!
Zoom discussions will happen on the four Wednesdays in October, 1:00-2:15 p.m., starting on October 7 when we’ll discuss through chapter 5, p. 112. Contact us for login information.
