The Rev. Sarah Lohrbach

Associate Pastor for Children, Family and Youth

To folks who knew Sarah growing up, it’s probably not at all surprising that she ended up as Associate Pastor for Children, Family and Youth here at Winnetka Congregational Church. Her mom was a full-time United Church of Christ (UCC) minister of music and youth, and starting in 1st grade, Sarah began spending a lot of time hanging out with her best friend “playing church” (guess who was always the preacher?). Sarah sang in church choirs from preschool through high school and went to church camp every summer. That annual pilgrimage to church camp became the one week of the year she looked forward to more than any other because it was where she experienced, most profoundly, a sense of meaning and belonging.

In many ways, her calling to work with youth and children began then. She went on to earn a B.A in Theological Studies and Christian Ministries from Elmhurst College and a MDiv from Chicago Theological Seminary, and most recently a Certificate in Youth and Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary’s Institute for Youth Ministry…all of which helped prepare her for this work and deepened her sense of mission.

Her passion, to make sure that kids get the message that they are loved by God unconditionally, and that they don’t have to be afraid to be who God created them to be, is at the heart of everything she does. As playful and as child-like as she can be (yes, she loves picture books, animated films, LEGO kits, coloring, Minions, Harry Potter and baby goats) she is very serious about that.
